Standards medium-deep wisteria-violet nearly plain. Falls open light blue and turn with age a beautiful silvery blue. Very sharp demarcation of colours with virtually no blending. Totally clean colours on broad, ruffled flowers with pleated fall margins.
Interesting and very unusual colour contrast between the pale blue standards and the bluish-black velvety falls. Black-purple beards tipped yellow. This very recent iris (introduced in the USA in 2004) has strong stalks and propagates very quickly.
"Paul Black" and "Alpenview" are the proud parents of this astonishing inversed amoena and its majestic 15 cm by 15 cm flower which is dedicated to Villa Erba, residence of the famous Italian film-director, Luchino Visconti. The magnificent wisteria-blue standards are darker at the centre, whilst the large bluish-white falls are elegantly undulated with ruffles. The mandarin-coloured beards of this really vigorous and fragrant new variety have lighter tips.
Quite an elegant son of "Crowned Heads". Deep blue-violet standards with a large clear blue border, pure white falls tinted blue-violet near the creamy white beards. Eight big, heavily ruffled and magnificent flowers per stem.
Blue-white standards contrast nicely with the inky blue-purple falls. The falls are rimmed in a wire-thin band of white that highlights the gentle ruffling of the flowers. This new blue two-toned iris has extremely vigorous flowering habits, often pushing up more than one stem per fan. Absolutely excellent!
